Resident advisors (RAs) serve as first-line support to their residents, as peers, leaders, educators, community builders and team players. RAs are responsible for developing a community for resident students within their assigned area, as well as encouraging participation in floor and community events and programs. RAs are the first contact for roommate conflict resolution. RAs are directly supervised by community enrichment coordinators (CECs).
Community enrichment coordinators (CECs) oversee a residential area, ranging from approximately 1,000 to 1,600 residents. CECs coordinate and conduct RA staff training and development, serve as coaches and counsel students, instruct first year enrichment courses, develop and support residential and institute wide programming, serve as conduct and judicial officers, resolve roommate conflicts, and serve as advisors to student organizations and special interest houses. CECs are directly supervised by assistant directors.
Assistant directors, who are similar to area managers, implement educational and social programs and activities for resident students. They oversee and coordinate all area services, facilities, and operations of an area and serve as advisors to student organizations and leadership groups. Assistant directors also respond to behavioral incident and conduct judicial interviews, investigations and independent hearings.
Community advocates (CAs) work in the apartment area, and oversee an apartment complex, ranging from 200-400 resident students. The CA provides support to students residing in on-campus apartments. The CA's primary duty is to facilitate interaction and communication among residents. CAs also conduct social and educational programs throughout the apartment area and institute wide and facilitate conflict resolution between roommates and neighbors. The CA is directly supervised by the area director.
Area directors coordinate campus and community resources to enhance students’ academic and co-curricular experience in the apartment area. Area directors facilitate and advocate for student initiatives that enhance the on-campus apartment living-learning environment.
One (1) staff assistant works in each area office in the department. They manage the office and provide direct support to the director, assistant directors, area directors and CECs. Area office staff assistants are responsible for area level assignments and room changes, key coordination and residence hall programming assistance and coordination.
